The Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus) is one of the largest species of pelicans, and its diet mainly consists of fish, such as crucian carp, common carp, or other freshwater fish. These birds usually hunt in groups, which helps them herd fish into shallow waters where they can catch them more easily. They use their distinctive, expandable throat pouch to catch fish, then squeeze out the water and swallow their prey. Dalmatian pelicans prefer catching fish in freshwater environments like lakes and rivers, although they sometimes hunt along coastal areas.
