The enigmatic bird that resembles a cartoon spy is the Dalmatian pelican (Pelecanus crispus). Resting alongside other pelicans on a small island in Lake Kerkini, it concealed its beak among feathers. Only its eye peeked out from the feathered mass, casting a suspicious gaze at the boat circling the islet.
