A useful tool or a curse
Elephants' tusks are in fgact their teeth, i.e. overgrown incisors. They serve them for various purposes, such as digging in the ground while looking for water, roots, or salt. They use it also while eating bark and opening baobab trunks, marking their territory in trees, defending themselves from predators or fighting other elephants. Unfortunately, this unique feature of these proud animals is also the main cause of poaching and a threat to their population.
