Why are flamingos pink?
Shallow ponds are the natural habitats of flamingos. They are their food resource, mostly of algae, straining it with a bill specially adapted for this purpose. Flamingos are naturally white or gray and acquire a pink color as a result of ingesting food rich in red dye. The photo shows Lesser flamingo (Phoeniconaias minor) from the Makgadikgadi Pan in Botswana.
