White or black?
The white rhino is not white, and the black rhino is not black. So where do such names come from? Well, because of a translation error. Afrikaners distinguished rhinoceros by the shape of their mouths: white is wide and black is pointed. "Wide" in Afrikaans is similar in pronouncing to English white, so it was wrongly translated by the first English settlers to "white". As a consequence of this translation, they named the second species of African rhinoceros as “black”for a change. After this explanation, will you recognize the species of rhino in the photo?
